Why Play?
Why non-ordinary states?
Mud Season
Spring in Colorado is mud season—an in-between space, neither winter nor full bloom. It's messy, unpredictable, and impossible to control. Just like real transformation.
We often think healing should be linear, sterile, and organized—but growth happens in the mud. In the spaces where we're not quite sure who we are yet, where we're slipping, adjusting, and reimagining ourselves in real-time.
Play is the same. It thrives in uncertainty, improvisation and experimentation. It’s a state of curiosity rather than control, exploration rather than expectation. When we stop trying to “get it right” and start playing with possibility, we unlock new ways of being.
At Playing in the Mud, we embrace the messy state of mind. We co-create space together, to use growth, healing, and connection through the joy of spontaneity—because that’s where real change happens.
playful healing
Psychedelics are seen as bringing insight, but what if they’re also tools for healing through play?
Non-ordinary states of consciousness naturally dissolve rigid identities, open us to flexibility, and change our perspective toward how we handle conflict, navigate relationships, and manage stress. They shift us from thinking about life to experiencing it.
Pairing non-ordinary states with a playful process of artistic creation, safe and trustful relating, and community connection, helps transformation occur in a deep, lasting way. Instead of just processing insights mentally, we express them directly, and nurture them together with one another.
At Playing in the Mud we step into healing together, embracing the—at times—messy process and playfully grow into our ideal realities.
